If you've spent any time in Dr. Joe Dispenza's world, you've heard people talk about the Blessing of the Energy Centers. It's one of his most loved meditations, practiced by thousands of people around the world, and many describe it as the moment their practice shifted from something they did into something they felt.
This guide walks you through the idea behind it and the shape of the practice, so that when you sit down with it you know exactly where you're going.
What are the energy centers?
In Becoming Supernatural, Dispenza describes eight energy centers running from the base of the spine to just above the head. Each center has its own gland, its own hormones and chemistry, its own energy and, as he puts it, its own individual mind. Together they form the body's energetic system, and each one broadcasts its own frequency and information.
When we live in survival mode, stressed, fearful, angry or competitive, Dispenza teaches that our energy gets drawn down into the first three centers, the ones tied to reproduction, digestion and our fight-or-flight response. We spend our energy just getting through the day. The Blessing of the Energy Centers is designed to reverse that: to gather that bound energy and move it back up through the body, so it's available for healing, creativity and connection.
The eight centers, from the ground up
- First
- The base of the spine and pelvic floor. Associated with survival, sexuality and procreation.
- Second
- The lower belly, just below the navel. Associated with digestion, elimination and our relationship to others.
- Third
- The solar plexus, behind the stomach. Associated with power, will and the drive to get things done.
- Fourth
- The heart, at the center of the chest. The bridge between the lower and upper centers: love, gratitude, wholeness.
- Fifth
- The throat. Associated with expression, voice and speaking your truth.
- Sixth
- The center of the head, behind the eyes. Associated with the pineal gland and inner vision.
- Seventh
- The top of the head. Associated with higher awareness and connection.
- Eighth
- Just above the head, outside the body. Dispenza describes it as your connection to the unified field.
The heart center sits right in the middle: three centers below, three above. It's where survival turns into creation.
The blessing itself
The structure of the meditation is simple, and it repeats for every center. First you bring your attention into the center, feeling it as a place in your body. Then you sense the space the center occupies, and the space around it. Then you bless it: you call up an elevated emotion such as love, gratitude or joy and send it into that center, blessing it for the greatest good of your life, your body and the people around you.
Why bless? In Dispenza's model, what you place your attention on is where you place your energy, and elevated emotions carry a higher energy than survival emotions. Bringing both to a center, attention and an elevated feeling, is how you change the energy there.
Your first Blessing of the Energy Centers
- Sit comfortably, spine tall and supported. Close your eyes and take a few slow breaths, letting your body settle.
- Bring your attention to the first center, at the base of your spine. Feel it. Then sense the space it occupies, and the space around it in the room.
- Now bless it. Call up a feeling of love or gratitude and let it pour into that center, for the greatest good of your life. Stay a minute or two.
- Move up to the second center, below your navel. Attention, space, blessing. Take your time.
- Continue through the solar plexus, the heart, the throat, the center of the head and the top of the head, one at a time, the same way.
- Finally, bring your attention about a foot above your head to the eighth center. Sense it, and bless your life from there.
- Rest for a few minutes as awareness itself, feeling the energy of your whole body at once. When you're ready, open your eyes slowly.
What people notice
- Warmth, tingling or pressure at a particular center, often the heart or the head.
- Emotional release: a wave of gratitude, tears, or unexpected lightness.
- More energy afterward, as if something that was stuck got moving.
- A deep sense of calm and connection that lingers into the day.
